Embracing Easter
3 top tips from a Dietitian to help you enjoy the Easter period guilt free
As Dietitian’s we know that the Easter period can be overwhelming and may create a sense of food-related anxiety. However, there are some things to remember around the Easter period which will hopefully ease some of these feelings, and help everyone enjoy the festive occasion.
Here are 3 tips to help you enjoy Easter guilt free!
1. Remember, Easter is only once a year!
Easter is a time of celebration, family gatherings and maybe eating more chocolate than you normally would. However, it is important to remember that this is only 1/52 weekends in the year. One weekend out of our year should not cause unnecessary stress, worry or guilt around the foods we eat, and instead we should give ourselves permission to enjoy the food available!
2. Try not to restrict yourself or ‘save room for later’..
Often, when we anticipate we will be eating a lot later in the day, we might skip breakfast or lunch to compensate. However, this strategy often backfires, leaving us hungry and prone to overeating later on. Instead, starting the day with a balanced breakfast helps maintain our energy levels and reduces cravings for sugary treats.
3. Focus on family time
Amidst the whirlwind of chocolate eggs and festive treats, it's good to remember Easter is a time for family gatherings! It should be a time where we can celebrate with loved ones without fixating on food. It is a time to enjoy the Easter egg hunts, the egg decorating or sharing of hot cross buns, and create lasting memories with loved ones.
At The Innovative Dietitian we wish you a happy and fulfilling Easter period, filled with all the chocolate, hot-cross buns and festive treats! We hope that everyone is able to spend the time with friends and family, and remember to have an egg-straordinary time.
